Founder / Authorized Agent
Since 1994, Paul has developed his expertise in individual and group health insurance, Medicare, life insurance, and long-term care. After falling in love with the mountains, long-time NC residents Paul and Lisa Folckomer moved their family to Brevard and founded Broad River Insurance in 2005.
Paul serves on advisory boards for BCBSNC and Humana. He's been named the top BCBSNC producer in the WNC region, a top 10 producer in NC, a President’s Club Award Winner, and a Century Club Award Recipient.
Paul believes in treating everyone equally with respect and friendship. He feels our job as agents is to educate our clients so that every individual can make an informed choice of coverage in their best interest.
Brenda Mullen
Authorized Agent
Brenda has been with Broad River Insurance since July 2007 and has served customers in different roles over the years with excellent customer service and compassion.
She started her insurance career with Aflac in 2003 working with small employer groups in WNC, and has expanded to working with individuals and families with ACA coverage, Medicare, dental, vision, and life. She has always enjoyed working with people in the community and thrives on helping others.
She was born and raised here, and enjoys living in Lake Toxaway with her husband, Gray. In her spare time, she loves tending to her flowers, gardening, spending time with her family, spoiling her grandkids & dogs, and being anywhere outdoors exploring our beautiful mountains.
Tonia Mahaffey
Office Manager / Authorized Agent
Tonia is a native of Greenville, SC and moved to Hendersonville, NC July of 2014.
She became employed with Broad River Insurance July 2015. Tonia has been married for 31 years.
She is the mother of four beautiful children and a grandmother of one amazing granddaughter that keeps her busy! Her favorite pastime is traveling, especially to the beach.
Morgan Folckomer-Shelton
Authorized Agent
Morgan has been a part of the Broad River Insurance team since 2019. Morgan is a graduate from Western Carolina University and has a Master's in Public Health from Colorado School of Public Health.
She works with individuals and families with ACA coverage, Medicare, dental, vision, and life insurance. She enjoys working with community members and being their advocate when help is needed.
Morgan and her husband, Colton, live in Canton and love being a part of the Haywood county community as well as the Brevard community. Her hobbies include reading (particularly mystery novels), cooking, and doing yoga.
Dawn W. Clayton
Authorized Agent
Dawn is a licensed health and life insurance agent at Broad River Insurance with over 30 years of experience in professional service roles.
It's important to her to help clients navigate complex marketplace rules regarding affordable health care, choose the right Medicare plan, and understand life insurance. She will support you diligently with enthusiasm. Truth builds trust and she specializes in having a personal and professional disposition with great communication skills for listening and explaining plan options and being available to meet timely deadlines.
Her time away from the office includes spending time with her husband, Jim, and family, playing golf, cooking/baking, growing herbs and enjoying life on a mountain top!
